Hair Removal FAQ
1. What are the most common forms of home hair removal?
The hair removal procedure that is most common, of course, is shaving. Men and women both use razors to remove unwanted hair from various areas of the body, including face, legs and underarms. While it is the most common, there are drawbacks including rashes or razor burn and the reality that hair often returns coarser than it originally was.
Hair removal creams, electric epilators, home laser tools and light pulse tools are now also common and these are looked at in later FAQs.
2. Are Hair removal at home use lasers safe?
No product of this type is supposed to b on the market without FDA approval, so if you shop for an at-home laser hair removal system make sure it states emphatically that is has been certified safe by the FDA. These products might also carry the “UL” symbol which means that they have been tested by Underwriters Laboratories, a very reliable private organization that thoroughly tests new products for safety in design, construction and use.
3. Is home laser therapy the same as what you receive in a professional clinic?
Yes! Depending on what system you have the laser treatment you receive at home uses the same technology professionals use. The Tria Home Hair Removal System is patterned after professional systems but perfectly tailored for use by any adult in the privacy and comfort of their home.
4. Is laser hair removal really permanent?
The answer to this is yes and no! Most hair originates at a shallow point in the skin, perhaps 1-3 mm down. Laser therapy has been proven to effectively eradicate hair at this level permanently. However, some hair, especially coarse hair, grows from a depth of 6-8 mm, too deep for lasers to reach. These hairs may continue to return even with laser therapy. The good news is that they will often return finer and weaker, making them painless to pluck out or laser away.
5. Is Light Pulse the same as laser?
Home Light Pulse therapy, or HLP, is very similar to laser therapy. In both procedures the hair absorbs light energy which causes it to heat up – the same way dark material gets hotter in the sun than light material does.
6. Is Home Light Pulse effective?
In many independent studies HLP, home light therapy, has been shown to be just as effective as laser therapy. These two procedures provide the longest lasting hair removal and that hair removal has the best chance of becoming permanent with consistent use of the tools.
7. Is laser or light pulse painful?
Most of those who have gone through laser and light pulse therapy report some discomfort and perhaps even slight pain. Home laser units like the Tria Laser Hair Removal System offers 5 levels of intensity. Customers describe levels 1 and 2 as being hardly noticeable. Level 3 is light a light snap from a rubber band. Levels 4 and 5 are like firmer snaps. With light pulse therapy like that offered by Silk’n SensEpil there is only one intensity level and those who use it report it creates slight discomfort or tingling, but not intense pain.
8. How long does laser and light pulse work?
In some instances these therapies will produce permanent results. If hair does come back it usually reappears above the surface in 3-5 weeks.
9. How does hair removal cream work?
The most effective hair removal creams available work the same way – by weakening or even dissolving the hair through the use of natural acids. Don’t be scared off by the word acid. We regularly consume acids in common products like citrus fruits, wine and cola. The acids found in hair removal creams like Dermology or Revitol Hair Removal Cream are natural and fairly mild. They can be left on the skin for 7-15 minutes without creating discomfort to the skin. The creams are wiped onto the skin and they usually penetrate the skin perhaps 1-2 mm, so hair is removed just below the skin’s surface. When the cream is wiped off the hair is painlessly removed.
10. How long does hair removal cream work?
These products will produce skin that is smoother than shaving can produce since hair is typically removed below the surface. Therefore the results last longer than with shaving, too. Expect to have skin that is free of noticeable hair for 10-21 days.
11. Are electric epilators effective?
Better electric epilators are very effective. Models like the Braun Silk-epil Xpressive Epilator and the Braun Xpressive Wet and Dry Body System remove hair, root and all, creating the most complete hair removal possible. It should not be called a permanent way to remove hair because hair often grows back. However, most users of electric epilators find that the hair returns thinner and easier to remove. In some instances it does not return at all, though that cannot be guaranteed.
12. Are electric epilators painful?
Most users of electric epilators do report mild discomfort because the hairs are removed using a series of tweezers-like mechanisms that pluck them out. Often this discomfort can be soothed by using a waterproof epilator like the Xpressive Wet and Dry Body System or by preparing the skin with a stimulator like the one included in the Braun Silk-epil Xpressive Epilator. Electric epilators are preferred by most users to both individual plucking of hair and to waxing.
